A man whose brother is accused of killing five people in San Francisco’s Ingleside neighborhood in March was sentenced today in an unrelated drug case.
Brian Luc, 32, is out of custody after pleading guilty last month to possession of cocaine with the intent to sell. He was sentenced today to three years’ probation and 400 hours of community service after serving 60 days in county jail.
Luc declined to comment outside of court after his sentencing.
He was taken into custody on March 25, the same day that police arrested his brother, Binh Luc, 35, on suspicion of the grisly killings of three women and two men at a home at 16 Howth St. near City College of San Francisco two days earlier.
Wan Yi Xu, 62; Chia Huei Chu, 30; Ying Xue Lei, 37; Hua Shun Lei, 65; and Vincent Lei, 32, were found dead in the home on the morning of March 23 by a family member.
Police found Brian Luc with about 28 grams of cocaine and two rounds of ammunition when they served a search warrant at a home where the Luc brothers lived together on Hayes Street in San Francisco.
Brian Luc was arrested at the home, while Binh Luc was taken into custody at a separate location in San Mateo County, police said.
Prosecutors have indicated that they intend to use Brian Luc as a witness in the case against his brother, but Brian’s attorney, Brendan Conroy, said today he has “not had any conversations at all” with the district attorney’s office about the brother’s murder case.
Luc agreed to plead guilty to the drug charge on May 22 after prosecutors dropped a charge of possession of ammunition by a felon. He was convicted last August of DUI and discharging a firearm.
Police and prosecutors still have not released a possible motive for the killings and are still seeking two weapons believed to have been used in the murders: a blunt weapon and an edged one.
Binh Luc is awaiting a preliminary hearing in the case and remains in custody in lieu of $25 million bail.
