A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the robbery and killing of a man in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park last month and is scheduled to make his initial appearance in court today, police and prosecutors said.
Jeremy Brinker, 33, was arrested at about 4 p.m. Thursday in Weed, a town located about four hours north of the Bay Area in Siskiyou County, police spokesman Sgt. Mike Andraychak said.
Brinker and Marcus Herrera, 23, are accused of killing 55-year-old Robert Musial, who was found by officers near Sharon Art Studio in Golden Gate Park around 7:20 p.m. on April 27, police said.
When Musial was initially found by officers, he was experiencing some sort of medical emergency and lost consciousness before an ambulance arrived. Emergency crews tried to revive him but he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Witnesses reported that Musial had been involved in some sort of altercation prior to being found by police, and an autopsy by the medical examiner’s office preliminarily found he had blunt-force injuries, causing the case to be ruled a homicide, police said.
Investigators had previously identified Herrera as a suspect in the case. He was arrested April 29 and pleaded not guilty May 4 to murder and robbery charges.
Following his arrest Thursday, Brinker was booked into county jail on suspicion of murder, assault with a deadly weapon, robbery and conspiracy, Andraychak said.
Brinker’s arraignment on the charges is scheduled for this afternoon in San Francisco Superior Court, district attorney’s office spokesman Alex Bastian said.
