The San Francisco Housing Authority has been selected for a federal grant that will be used to enhance security at various public housing complexes around the city, housing authority officials announced today.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development chose San Francisco’s agency to receive a $250,000 grant that will be used to improve safety at 12 sites around the city.
The sites that will be improved include the Holly Courts, Alemany, Sunnydale, Westbrook, Ping Yuen, 227 Bay Street, Hunters Point, Hunters View, Alice Griffith, 990 Pacific, Rosa Parks Senior Center and Robert B. Pitts housing developments, according to the housing authority.
Improvements will include the addition of exterior lights, security cameras, emergency alarm systems, window bars and deadbolt locks and doors, as well as metal fence and gate modifications.
“In the many conversations we have with our residents and the greater public here in the city, we often hear requests for additional security features on the grounds of our properties,” Henry Alvarez, executive director of the housing authority, said in a statement.
The agency will begin to work with the communities of the various complexes over the course of the next fiscal year to determine the best way to implement the new security features, Alvarez said.
