A van collided with a Golden Gate Transit bus on San Francisco’s Mission Street late this morning, a police spokesman said.
The crash was reported at 11:08 a.m. on Mission Street near Fifth Street.
The bus was traveling east in the bus lane on Mission Street when a van in the left eastbound lane tried to change lanes and sideswiped the bus, causing the bus to hit a tree on the sidewalk, police spokesman Sgt. Mike Andraychak said.
There were about 16 people aboard the bus when it crashed, but none of the passengers were injured. The bus driver, a 49-year-old woman, complained of pain but did not require hospitalization, Andraychak said.
The driver of the Toyota, a 78-year-old man, was not injured, nor was his female passenger, according to Andraychak.
The crash happened right in front of the Sprint wireless store at 843 Mission St., a store employee said.
“There was a loud boom noise, and glass shattered,” employee Tiana Provost said.
The tree fell after being struck by the bus, she said.
Police said the tree hit a building when it fell, but Provost said the Sprint store was not damaged.
The bus and van both sustained moderate damage in the crash, Andraychak said.
Golden Gate Transit spokeswoman Mary Currie said the agency is deciding whether to place the bus driver on non-driving status.
Andraychak said no citations have been issued and investigators do not believe alcohol was a factor in the collision.
He around 1 p.m. that the bus was being towed away and crews were removing the fallen tree.
