10:12 AM: A pedestrian was critically injured when he was struck by a bicyclist who possibly ran a red light in San Francisco’s Castro District this morning, a police spokesman said.
The collision was reported at 8:08 a.m. at Market and Castro streets.
The bicyclist was traveling south on Castro Street and was crossing Market Street when he struck an elderly man walking east in a crosswalk, police spokesman Sgt. Daryl Fong said.
Witnesses told police that the bicyclist may have run a red light prior to the collision, Fong said.
Both the bicyclist and pedestrian were taken to San Francisco General Hospital. The pedestrian’s injuries are considered life-threatening, Fong said. The bicyclist is expected to survive.
The investigation is ongoing and any witnesses are urged to call police, Fong said.
9:14 AM: A pedestrian and bicyclist were hospitalized after colliding with each other in San Francisco’s Castro District this morning, a fire department spokeswoman said.
The accident was reported at 8:08 a.m. by a witness who said both the bicyclist and pedestrian were unconscious, fire spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said.
Emergency crews responded and took both of them to San Francisco General Hospital, Talmadge said. She did not have any information on the extent of the victims’ injuries.
The Police Department is investigating the crash. Police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said he did not immediately have any information about the collision.
