"Make it your mission to email your legislators every hour of every day demanding a repeal of Costa-Hawkins so that rent control can be uniformly applied to all buildings in San Francisco and other rent controlled jurisdictions."

Firstly, considering she's lived in the condo for 4 years and her rent has never been raised, she has effectively been living in a rent controlled building.

Secondly, rent control is the problem, not the solution. I won't go into how rent control keeps housing off the market, driving available rents up. Or how people who can afford way more than they are paying, refuse to leave because their rent is so cheap, keeping affordable apartments off the market, driving prices up. Or that the laws so disproportionately protect the tenant over the owner to such a degree that it's unattractive for small property owners to rent, that they keep units off the market, driving prices up.

What bothers me most about rent control is that it's a way for the city to provide affordable housing on the backs of private citizens.

I am all for affordable housing for those in need. However, it's The City's job to provide it, and all tax payers to pay for it.
