Two San Francisco Municipal Railway bus lines will be rerouted near Union Square starting Saturday because of ongoing construction work for the agency’s Central Subway project.
Southbound buses on the 30-Stockton and 45-Union-Stockton lines will be rerouted from Stockton Street to Sutter Street, then south on Mason Street, east on Market Street and south on Fifth Street, Muni officials said.
The changes are expected to be in effect for four years, the length of time planned for construction around Union Square for the Central Subway.
The $1.6 billion project will create a new branch of Muni’s T-Third light-rail line from Fourth and Brannan streets to Chinatown, with underground stops at Moscone Center and Union Square.
The subway is expected to be operational in 2019.
In addition to rerouting the two lines, Muni is also adding a temporary shuttle route to complement service on the 8X-Bayshore line. The 8-Shuttle will operate daily from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The shuttle will be eliminated when the 8X is rerouted for Central Subway construction at a later date.
