San Francisco’s unemployment rate dropped below 8 percent in November, part of a downward trend in jobless numbers across California, according to data released today by state officials.
San Francisco’s unemployment rate dropped to 7.8 percent in November, down from 8.1 percent in October and 9.5 percent in January, according to the state’s Employment Development Department.
Mayor Ed Lee released a statement about the latest jobless numbers.
“I am excited to learn that San Francisco’s unemployment rate has dropped again, making our city among the lowest in the state,” Lee said.
“San Francisco is moving in the right direction and our economic policies are helping to get people back to work,” he said.
California’s unemployment rate also dropped for the third straight month in November, dipping to 11.3 percent from 11.7 percent the prior month.
Bay Area counties were all below the state average, including Marin County, which has the lowest jobless rate in the state at 6.9 percent.
Solano and Santa Clara counties each have the highest rate in the region at 10.6 percent.
The national unemployment rate also took a sharp drop in November to 8.6 percent from 9 percent in October.
The state’s unemployment rate is derived from a federal survey of 5,500 California households.
