The SF District Attorney’s office has yet to decide if they will pursue murder charges against the sole suspect in the homicide of an elderly San Francisco woman — her husband.
As previously reported, police and firefighters were called to the 200 block of Justin Drive, in the St. Mary’s Park area of Bernal Heights, at around 10:30 p.m. Friday.
Upon their arrival, they found 72-year-old Hao Mei Wu lying on the floor unconscious. According to the Ex, officials believe she had been “manually strangled.”
As the fire crew attempted to revive her, they encountered her husband, identified by the Ex as 74-year-old Ying Hua Wu.
According to SFFD, Ying Hua Wu was combative and holding a knife. The suspect then stabbed himself in the neck before advancing toward the fire crew in a threatening manner, according to police.
The firefighters were able to take the knife away from the suspect as police arrived and helped to strap him to a medic backboard, police said.
They were taken separately to SF General, where Hao Mei Wu was pronounced dead, and her husband remains in custody.
“We’re still gathering all the relevant information in order to make an informed decision, with respect to how, if at all, to charge this case,” a DA’s office spokesperson told the Ex.
So far, no motives for the killing have been released.
