shooting_nighttime.jpgA man was shot in the foot in San Francisco’s Mission District tonight, police said.

A 41-year-old man was shot while sitting in a bus shelter at 16th and Mission streets at around 7 p.m.

The victim ran away and flagged down a passing police car near 17th and Mission streets. He was taken to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries, police said.

A patrol officer in the area heard the shots and chased a man he saw running away from the scene.

The officer lost sight of the man and another officer detained a man who matched the suspect’s description, according to police.

That man has been detained and the shooting is under investigation.

Police said officers searched the route where the suspect was seen running and found a handgun under a parked car.
