pg&e_blackout(2).jpgAfter an explosion was reported in San Francisco’s Upper Market neighborhood Tuesday night nearly 275 customers lost power, a PG&E spokeswoman said.

Emergency crews responded to an area near Portola Drive and Market Street around 10:30 p.m. A San Francisco fire dispatcher said a transformer caused the explosion.

PG&E spokeswoman Jana Morris said an outage was reported in the same neighborhood around 10:15 p.m. with 273 people without power.

As of 4 a.m. this morning power had been restored to all but 58 customers. Those customers should have power by 6:30 a.m., Morris said.

She said the outage was caused by a failed transformer.
