cover-crosswalk.jpgA San Francisco man died after he was struck by an SUV while crossing the street in the city’s Castro neighborhood Tuesday morning, San Francisco police said.

William Cox, 59, was in a crosswalk at the intersection of Noe and 14th streets when a Ford Explorer hit him as the driver made a left turn onto 14th Street around 10:40 a.m., according to San Francisco police and the medical examiner’s office.

Cox was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police Officer Albie Esparza said.

Traffic at the intersection is controlled by a four-way stop sign, and Esparza said Cox was crossing the street legally.

The driver, who spoke with officers after the collision, is cooperating with the investigation, he said.

“It’s too early to determine whether charges will be filed,” Esparza said.
