bartpolice_generic.jpgThough many people would rather see no law enforcement at BART at all, the exact opposite will be occurring this weekend, which marks (as you might have heard) the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

As the auspicious date approaches, BART stations are working with local law enforcement throughout the weekend to increase transit safety, BART officials said.

It’s all part of the second annual Operation RAILSAFE, the objective of which is ” to coordinate deployments of personnel, not just among agencies that police the rail systems, but with those agencies that could be called upon to help secure the rail system during an emergency or heightened alert,” BART says.

BART hastens to say that there’s no specific threat, but BART riders will see a surge in local law enforcement patrolling stations and parking lots along with regular BART patrols on platforms through Monday, according to the agency.
