protest-crap.jpgActivist groups opposed to PG&E’s SmartMeters are planning to protest outside a California Public Utilities Commission workshop in San Francisco today.

The CPUC is holding the workshop on SmartMeter opt-out requests in response to widespread opposition to the wireless meters that read and electronically transmit data on natural gas and electric power usage at homes and businesses.

Opponents of SmartMeters claim that they emit harmful radiation, and blame the meters for “thousands of reports of adverse health effects,” StopSmartMeters.Org director Joshua Hart said in a statement.

Hart said he and others, including Fairfax Mayor Larry Bragman and Californians for Renewable Energy president Michael Boyd, are planning to rally outside the CPUC workshop in San Francisco at 12:30 p.m.

The rally will be held on the steps of the CPUC offices at 505 Van Ness Ave.
The daylong workshop began at 9:30 a.m.
