Ross_Mirkarimi.jpgA party is being thrown in San Francisco tonight for a politician who is turning 50 — no, not President Obama, who also hit the big 5-0 today, but Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, who shares a birthday with the president.

Mirkarimi, who has served as a San Francisco supervisor since 2005 and is running for sheriff in November, will celebrate his birthday with a party attended by family, friends and several elected officials.

Sheriff Mike Hennessey, state Sen. Mark Leno, state Assembly members Tom Ammiano and Fiona Ma, former Mayor Art Agnos and Supervisors David Campos and Jane Kim are among those expected to attend the party, which is taking place at Yoshi’s Jazz Club and Japanese Restaurant.

The celebration, which will feature sushi rolls and other hors d’oeuvres and complimentary drinks, will double as a fundraiser for Mirkarimi’s campaign for sheriff, with tickets running from $50 to $500.

The event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
