barry-bonds.jpgThough he’s no longer a Giant, Barry Bonds’ presence still looms large in the Bay Area. Recently, the 47-year-old “home run king” agreed to be part of the new CW network show H8R in an attempt to con a Barry Bond-hater into thinking he’s actually a good guy. Oh, and he’s still dicking around in court, awaiting sentencing.

As the AP reports (via the Ex) , Bonds is due back in federal court December 16 to be sentenced for an obstruction of justice conviction.

The conviction, a felony, carries a possible sentence of up to 10 years in prison, though federal guidelines call for 15-21 months. The Chron suggests that Bonds will most likely be sentenced to home confinement, as similar offenses in the BALCO steroids ring case yielded such sentences.

As previously reported, Bonds was convicted on one charge of obstructing justice after giving horribly roundabout testimony when asked if his personal trainer, Greg Anderson, ever gave him anything that required a syringe to administer.

Rather than take Bonds’ bid for either acquittal or a new trial, U.S District Judge Susan Illston maintained Bonds’ conviction, though Bonds can appeal the ruling to the 9th U.S Circuit Court of Appeals.

Though three other counts Bonds was tried on ended in a deadlocked jury, Bonds has yet to be retried on them. All this lengthy nonsense comes after a 2003 grand jury investigation of the distribution of performance-enhancing drugs to athletes by the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative, aka BALCO.
