wrapmuni.jpgTaking a page from the book of Nascar and completely ignoring how some advertisements have turned out, Muni is set to blanket up to 57 streetcars and buses with advertising.

As the Chron reports, as always, the SFMTA has a deficit to close. This time it’s an expected $22 million shortfall for the fiscal year that began this month. The total operating budget for the year is $780.6 million.

If the Board of Supervisors approves this proposal on Tuesday, an amendment will be added to Titan Outdoor’s contract with Muni enabling them “wrap the entire bus” with ads, including the windows.

Window ads are currently not allowed for safety and security concerns, but at this juncture, SFMTA’s internal security team and the SFPD have said they’d be OK with window-wrapping.

Repping that many companies that hard on that many buses could generate as much as $500,000 a year for SFMTA, says their chief financial officer Sonali Bose.
