As we’d previously reported, earlier this month the SFMTA unveiled the Nx-Judah bus to help alleviate congestion on their supremely popular N-Judah rail line. The bus, which debuted June 13, runs every 10 minutes during the morning and afternoon commutes, traveling between the Financial District and Ocean Beach.
Thanks to steadily increasing numbers in ridership, stellar service time, and positive passenger feedback, SFMTA’s ready to declare the first week of the pilot program a success, the Ex reports. Ridership steadily increased from Monday on, they say, with numbers jumping from 930 on Monday to 1,400 on Thursday.
Muni transit chief John Haley is also proud to report that service time for the Nx-Judah is 3-4 minutes faster than originally projected. It takes the Nx-Judah an average of 35 minutes to cover its route.
Haley’s one of the few folks from SF’s transit agency touting a success today — as we were finishing this blog post, the Chron reported that Carter Rohan, the SFMTA’s second in command and, until recently, candidate to fill departing chief Nat Ford’s shoes, has resigned “for personal reasons.”
Will the MTA departures and the Nx win mean a step up for Haley? It’s obviously too soon to tell, so until then, we’ll let Haley bask in the glow of the first week on the Nx, which he says “was virtually flawless.”
