This Monday, the SFMTA is rolling out its controversial new route for Muni’s most popular light rail line, intended to, they say, alleviate congestion.
The Nx Judah Express Bus will run on weekdays at peak Judah-riding hours during the morning and afternoon commute, arriving every 10 minutes. The N Judah Rail will still operate at those times too, so you don’t really have to change the way you commute but with $1.8 million going into this pilot program, SFMTA hopes to hell you do.
The Nx Judah bus is, according to SFMTA, easily recognizable and apparently reminiscent of a party bus, with a blue stripe around the roof line and windshield, purple lights, and the Nx Judah logo. If you’re inbound, the bus’s signs will read: Judah Exp, Financial Dist, last stop 19th Ave. For outbound it will read: Judah Exp, Ocean Beach, first stop 19th Ave. Routes will be posted on all Nx Judah buses.
Keep in mind that the Nx Judah is only a pilot program, which means the SFMTA says they also really wants to hear what you think about it. They’ll have Ambassadors all along the Nx Judah route Monday through Wednesday to help you with your busing experience.
The SFMTA has also set up a special section of their website for feedback on the new (but not really new) route at www.sfmta.com/judah.
Says Chairman of the Board of Directors Tom Nolan, “We hope this pilot will prove to be a solution for the overcrowding on the N Judah. The N Line is a real workhorse for Muni and we want to make sure that we can accommodate the large ridership.”
