Customers can now refill their all-in-one transit cards at any of BART’s 302 ticket machines throughout its 44 stations, transit officials said.

The upgraded ticketing machines are the result of BART and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s five-year, $10.6 million program.

Clipper cards are used for more than 450,000 boardings each weekday on Bay Area transit and more than 100,000 boardings each weekday on BART alone, which accounts for roughly 30 percent of BART’s fare payments, transit officials said.

“This is great news for customers around the Bay Area,” MTC vice chair Amy Rein Worth said in a statement. “It makes Clipper even easier, faster and more convenient for BART passengers, especially those who use suburban stations where there might not be a Clipper retailer nearby.”

Customers can add cash value to their Clipper card using cash, credit cards or debit cards. The ticket machines do not distribute new Clipper cards, transit officials said.

New cards are available at retail locations around the Bay Area. Locations can be found at www.511.org or cards can be ordered online at www.clippercard.com.
