San Francisco fire and police departments joined a U.S. Coast Guard response to a report of a person who had hit the water after falling or jumping 220 feet from the Golden Gate Bridge at about 10:55 a.m., the dispatcher said.

Rescuers found a teenage girl who had survived the fall from mid-span on the San Francisco side of the bridge, the dispatcher said.

The girl was conscious and responsive when she was pulled from the water, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

She was taken to Marin General Hospital.

Officials did not immediately confirm if the girl had been attempting to commit suicide.

The incident remains under investigation.
