steven_free-girafa.jpgA San Francisco man has pleaded guilty to two counts of felony vandalism and two counts of misdemeanor vandalism for tagging both city and private property in San Jose in 2009.

Steven Free, 32, entered the plea in Santa Clara Superior Court on Monday, according to San Jose police Officer Jose Garcia.

In October 2009, San Jose police arrested Free on ten counts of felony vandalism, eight of which have since been dropped.

Police said that Free, who goes by the tagging name “Girafa,” caused over $38,000 in damage to public and private buildings.

A police investigation revealed that Free was one of “the most prolific taggers in the Bay Area” at the time of his arrest.

Free was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to pay $38,000 to the City of San Jose and the owners of other vandalized property.
