An exhibit opening next week at San Francisco International Airport will feature 20th century metalwork that combines function with exceptional design, according to SFO.
“A Century of Silver and Metalwork from the Margo Grant Walsh Collection” will open Thursday in Terminal 2 and run through October, according to the airport.
It will feature more than 100 examples of design and craftsmanship from around the world, including bronze candlesticks, pewter bowls, copper and brass teapots, and sterling silver beakers.
The objects are meant to reflect the taste of Christopher Dresser, one of the first modernist designers, who was interested in functional objects that “reveal their essence through their form and their beauty,” according to SFO.
Dresser was a 19th century botanist who concluded that beauty was achieved with simplicity of form and clarity of function.
The exhibit is courtesy of Margo Grant Walsh, an interior architect who now works in the research and acquisition of 20th century silver and metalwork.
Some of the pieces are from an exhibit at the Portland Art Museum.
