baby_crying.jpgSFian Lloyd Schofield is apparently a big fan of going all out and uncut in quite a few positions. Schofield, who wants to ban the circumcision of males under the age of 18 in the city, says he has has gathered about 5,000 more signatures than is necessary to put his proposal on the ballot.

12,250 ardent anti-snippers signed in favor of the measure, though he only needed 7,168 valid signatures by 5 tonight. The Department of Elections will then have 30 days to review the proposal and see if it makes the November 8th election cut.

Schofield says he’s spent more than $9,000 on keeping future penes intact.

If the measure passes, SF’s police code would be amended “to make it a misdemeanor to circumcise, excise, cut or mutilate the foreskin, testicles or penis of another person who has not attained the age of 18.” Violators would face up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Critics of the measure feel that it violates religious freedom. Political junkies just think it’s hilarious. Only time will tell if the anti-circumcision movement catches on. A similar bill was introduced in Massachusetts last year, but the legislation failed, rejected by the state’s Judiciary Committee.
