San Francisco Department of Public Works crews cleaned up at least 10 tons of illegally dumped debris in San Francisco’s Bayview neighborhood this morning, a department spokeswoman said.
The crews responded after a resident reported a large amount of debris on the sidewalk near 1347 Donner Ave., spokeswoman Gloria Chan said.
The debris was mainly old roofing materials, shingles, and various household items, and weighed between 10 and 12 tons, Chan said.
Crews used heavy equipment to collect and haul away the items, and had mostly cleaned the area up as of 10 a.m., she said.
The Bayview has been a popular area for illegal dumping, with three other cases reported at the same spot crews were cleaning up today, according to the department.
Chan said the department is letting the public know about today’s cleanup “to raise awareness of the issue…it affects the quality of life in San Francisco.”
The Police Department and other city officials are investigating the incidents, and anyone who sees other illegal dumping is encouraged to call 311.
Chan said residents should also be aware of services the city provides to properly dispose of various items.
