A stabbing in the Potrero Hill neighborhood left one woman dead and another in custody Monday morning.

Police were called to the 1000 block of Connecticut at 11:28 AM Monday, where the victim, identified by the Chron as 26-year-old Ernestine Herron, was “involved in a verbal altercation on the street when the suspect,” identified by the Chron as 48-year-old Maria Burgos, “produced a kitchen knife and stabbed (Herron) in the neck.”

Witnesses told police the knife used in the attack had a 6-inch blade, SFPD spokesperson Lt. Troy Dangerfield told Bay City News

“It appears that they knew each other,” Dangerfield said. “They weren’t strangers.”.

Herron, reports the Ex, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Burgos has been arrested and booked by SFPD. This is San Francisco’s 19th homicide of 2011.
