schools.jpgStudents, teachers, parents and community members are rallying today in San Francisco’s Excelsior neighborhood in support of public education.

The group will march from the San Francisco Community School to the Excelsior Post Office to deliver letters to elected officials demanding “full funding” for public education, according to student group Active Leadership to Advance Youth, which helped organize the event.

“Devastating budget cuts have become an annual event for public schools,” rally organizers said in a statement. “We won’t stand for it any longer.”

The march will start at 2 p.m. at the San Francisco Community School, located at 125 Excelsior Ave., and conclude with a program from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 163 London St.

Participating schools and organizations include Monroe Elementary School, Denman Middle School, Hillcrest Elementary School, June Jordan School for Equity, POWER SF, the Filipino Community Center, Coleman Advocates, Chinese Progressive Association, and more.
