GGNRA Extends Public Comment Period For Off Leash Dog Restriction Plan

Yesterday was a perfect example of the importance of keeping GGNRA off-leash – as the sun peeked through the rain clouds, the only population at Crissy Field were humans with their dogs. And everyone was having a great time.
I remember the dark days when Crissy had a leash law. We all had to watch for Rangers, turning them into foes instead of the heroes they are.
Preserved in my mind is one rainy afternoon I was there. Two cars in the parking lot. No one at the main beach but a Ranger. I crossed the bridge keeping my corgi on leash and headed out to the “dunes” beach area.
Absolutely no one but one woman with her two labs who were happily fetching a stick thrown into the surf. They were joyous to watch. They were bothering no one. The Ranger snuck around and gave the woman two tickets for having the labs off leash. Really? I guess the Ranger wants absolutely no one to enjoy Crissy Field.
Storms have raised the sand above the protective fences along the dunes. I would love to see dog owners volunteer to replace those fences to protect the vegetation and wildlife in those areas.
I, like other dog-owners want everyone to enjoy the beautiful open areas we are so privileged to have access to here in the Bay Area.
Anyway. I am calling my Senators and asking them to support a San Francisco everyone can share equally.
