The San Francisco Giants’ World Series trophy will be available for public viewing at City Hall again this afternoon for the start of a tour that will take it around California and four other states in the coming months.
The Commissioner’s Trophy, given to the Giants after they beat the Texas Rangers to win their first World Series since moving to San Francisco in 1958, will be in San Francisco today and Wednesday for fans who want to see and take pictures with it.
Visitors streamed into City Hall to see the trophy when it was there on Dec. 15 for the announcement of the tour.
Team representatives will be at City Hall this afternoon, but no players will attend the event, team spokeswoman Staci Slaughter said.
“They’re getting ready for the (upcoming) season,” she said.
The trophy will be at City Hall from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today and Wednesday, and will then travel to Sacramento on Thursday as part of a 30-stop tour around Northern California, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, and New York, the team’s original home before it relocated 52 years ago.
Fans can view the trophy for free, and have the option of having a professional photo taken with it and purchasing prints online.
Each stop on the tour will last about two hours, and will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis.
