1/22 10:55 AM: Shifting sands on San Francisco’s Great Highway can pose a roadway hazard, and city crews will close the road early next week while they reverse the work of Mother Nature along the roadway.

The city’s Department of Public Works will close the Great Highway to vehicle traffic between Lincoln Way and Sloat Boulevard for one week beginning Monday.

Traffic will be diverted between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. as crews trim vegetation from the medians to improve visibility.

Sand will also be relocated “as needed,” according to the public works department, which is responsible for the upkeep of city streets and much of San Francisco’s infrastructure.
