limbaugh.jpgState Assemblyman Paul Fong is the latest Bay Area elected official to call on conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh to apologize to the Chinese community for mocking Chinese President Hu Jintao’s speech earlier this week.

Fong, D-Cupertino, is demanding the apology two days after Limbaugh mimicked the Chinese president on his show Wednesday. State Sen. Leland Yee, D-San Francisco, also asked for an apology.

“To mock the Chinese language is to mock our culture and our race,” Fong said.

Limbaugh was describing a Fox News broadcast that had faulty translation of a speech Hu gave when for almost 20 seconds he spoke gibberish Chinese.

“Normally they translate every couple of words, but Hu Jintao was just going chin chong, chin chong cha…” Limbaugh said before continuing to mimic the language.

Fong called Limbaugh’s comments childish and ignorant.

He said he sent Limbaugh a letter asking for an apology and has asked the California Asian Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus to send one as well.

“We need that apology,” he said. “That behavior breeds racism. We need to show the people that listen to him that it is inappropriate.”
