police-light-bar1.jpgA man was stabbed in a fight on the San Francisco waterfront this evening, a police sergeant said.

Police responded at about 4:45 p.m. to reports of a fight in the 400 block of the Embarcadero, near Pier 26 and the Bay Bridge, Sgt. Mike Andraychak said.

A 19- or 20-year-old man was stabbed in the fight, which involved up to eight people, Andraychak said. The man was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

The fight stemmed from a prior conflict between two groups of people, who apparently ran into each other and reinvigorated the dispute, he said.

The suspects ran from the scene, Andraychak said, and no arrests had been made tonight.
He said it was too early to determine if the fight was gang-related.
