MauriceWilliamson12.29.10.jpg7:15pm: A man shot by San Francisco police responding to reports of a stabbing in the city’s Portola neighborhood this afternoon has died, a police spokesman said tonight.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was being treated at San Francisco General Hospital for life-threatening injuries sustained during a confrontation with officers, police Lt. Troy Dangerfield said.

Police had responded to a report of a stabbing at 3:51 p.m. at a home in the 600 block of Bacon Street.

Officers entered the home and made contact with the suspect, who allegedly had some type of knife in his hand, Dangerfield said.

Police asked the man to put down the knife, but instead he allegedly came toward the officers, who opened fire on him, according to Dangerfield. The suspect was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, he said.

The victim who originally reported the stabbing was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released, he said.

5:07pm: An officer-involved shooting in San Francisco’s Portola neighborhood this afternoon left a man hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, a police spokesman said.

The shooting occurred when officers responded to a report of a stabbing at 3:51 p.m. at a home in the 600 block of Bacon Street, San Francisco police Lt. Troy Dangerfield said.

Officers entered the home and made contact with the suspect, who allegedly had some type of knife in his hand, Dangerfield said.

Police asked the man to put down the knife, but instead he allegedly came toward the officers, who opened fire on him, according to Dangerfield. The suspect was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, he said.

The victim who originally reported the stabbing was also taken to a local hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening, he said.

4:45pm: An officer-involved shooting in San Francisco’s Portola neighborhood this afternoon left a suspect hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, a police spokesman said.

Police were responding to a call around 3:50 p.m. in the 600 block of Bacon Street, where they were confronted by someone who had some type of knife, San Francisco police Lt. Troy Dangerfield said.

The suspect approached the officers and was shot by at least one of them, Dangerfield said.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were considered life threatening as of 4:30 p.m., he said.

A resident in the 600 block of Bacon Street said she heard two gunshots but did not see what happened.
