sfpd_squad.jpg11/1 7:13 AM: Police investigating a Sunday night shooting in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood have declared the crime – which wounded three victims, including a 3-year-old girl – as gang-related, a San Francisco police spokesman said.

Two men and the young child were shot near the intersection of 25th and Connecticut streets at about 10 p.m. Sunday, San Francisco police Sgt. Michael Andraychak said.

The 3-year-old was struck by bullets multiple times, despite the efforts of her 54-year-old grandfather, who was struck by one bullet trying to shield his granddaughter with his body, Andraychak said.

San Francisco police believe the man and his toddler granddaughter were unintended victims of the gunfire, Andraychak said. The child’s mother drove them both to a local hospital, he said.

A third victim, a 20-year-old man, was also hit multiple times in the shooting, Andraychak said. His wounds were determined to be life threatening, Andraychak said, and the man was also transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The grandfather’s single gunshot wound was determined not to be life threatening, but his granddaughter’s multiple wounds were deemed life threatening because of her young age, Andraychak said.

“For a small child like that, any injury could be serious,” he said.

Police do not have any information on possible suspects in the shooting, and it is not known if they were using a vehicle, Andraychak said.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to call the San Francisco Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444.

Information can also be texted in using Text-A-Tip by sending tips to TEXT411 with “SFPD” in the message.
