car_crash.jpgHey, remember that car accident cleanup fee for drivers found to be at fault, proposed to help bolster our 2010-2011 budget? As you might recall, the Board of Supervisors gave this fee the green light, and now, the Fire Department says they’re ready to start collecting.

According to the Examiner, the Fire Department will start expecting drivers who cause accidents (or, more likely, their insurance companies) to pony up between $249 to $498 to cover the cost of cleaning up their crashes in “about two weeks.” So if you want to wreck, this is the week!

Projections have the new fees generating as much as $626,000, so though the Ex says that only 21 percent of Californians support emergency response fees such as this, it may help close the $13 million deficit the Fire Department is currently facing. What do you think?
