As previously reported , Bay to Breakers is desperately trying to clean up its image by enacting stricter policies on alcohol, nudity, floats, and litter. After meetings between organizers and the public, these new rules have been finalized, rules that could get not just partiers but a certain Lt. Gov hopeful in big trouble.
As you probably suspected, alcohol and floats are now definitely banned from the event, as are unregistered runners like Gavin Newsom, who admitted that he ran as a bandit this year (and, presumably, missed out on the commemorative t-shirt).
Cops will be joined by private security to make sure Gavin (and everyone else) follows the rules. And the crowd should be a little easier to manage: race orgainzers say they plan to cap registration at 50,000 participants.
All this, of course, is contingent on the race actually happening — primary sponsor ING pulled out after last year’s pee party, and has yet to be replaced.
