Mission Mission tips us off to a early-Wednesday-morning car fire right in front of Garfield Square, captured in photos by Nick Fisher. MM expressed concerns that the fire was “More carson!”, citing a multi-car arson that struck their beat last week. Did last week’s pyro strike again? The SFPD/SFFD’s arson unit isn’t so sure.
The fire was reported across from Garfield Square, a park located between 25th, 26th, Harrison, and Treat, at 1:13 Wednesday morning, says SFFD spokesperson Lt. Mindy Talmadge. She says that when firefighters arrived on the scene, 2 vehicles were on fire, and that they believed one car had been burning first, then caught an adjacent car on fire.
And what a fire it was — take a look at the pictures! Fisher notes that “the fire somehow turned on the horn and headlights which were both blasting for the duration.” My god, I hate car alarms.
However, according to SFPD spokesperson Sgt. Michael Andraychak, the arson task force has determined that the fire was accidental in nature, and is not believed to be connected to last week’s intentionally set fires.
Andraychak, who says he spoke directly with arson investigators, confirms Talmadge’s report that the fire began in one car, then spread to the second. God, sucks for the second guy, doesn’t it? Best of luck to all in dealing with that insurance claim.
