1:43 PM: As brought to our attention by Beth Spotswood, twitter users are reporting that the Union Square area has been hit with a shelter-in-place order after a “suspicious package” was found at Macy’s.

While the department store’s been evacuated, everyone else in the area’s been urged to stay in place. Neither SFFD nor SFPD were able to offer additional details at this time, but we’ll keep you posted.

1:49 PM (BCN): Police are investigating a suspicious package in San Francisco’s Union Square this afternoon.

The package was reported just after 12:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Geary Street, San Francisco police Officer Boaz Mariles said.

The bomb squad was still at the scene as of 1:30 p.m.

No injuries have been reported, but traffic in the area has been impacted. Geary Street is closed between Post and Powell streets and San Francisco Municipal Railway buses are being rerouted.

1:56 PM: The SFMTA’s informed us that since 12:45, “service on six Muni bus routes on Stockton Street, south of the Stockton Street Tunnel and on Geary Street has been disrupted” due to the bomb scare. Here’s the breakdown on how your route might be disrupted:

2 Clement – Rerouting inbound to Mason Street, Market Street and then back to the regular route

3 Jackson – Outbound is switching back at Post and Larkin

30 Stockton, 45 Union-Stockton and 8X Bayshore Express – From the Tunnel, rerouting to westbound Sutter Street, then to Mason, Eddy and Market Street and then back to the regular route

38 Geary – Outbound is turning right on Kearny, to Sutter and Mason, back to Geary and the regular route

2:12 PM: The threat has been cleared, and Muni service is back to normal. Guess those dolphins and sea lions came in and took care of business.
