While watching yesterday’s somewhat epic SF MTA board meeting (it was, like, 7 hours, no joke. I missed Beth!), I started wondering how the process to fill the soon-to empty seats of Board members Dr. James McCray, Jr and Shirley Breyer-Black was going.
As you might recall, at least for now, the seven members of the SF MTA board serve an unpaid, four-year sentence term after being appointed by the Mayor to oversee, yes, the SF MTA, in all its dubious glory.
While one of those seats will presumably be filled by the traditional appointment process (that is, whoever guesses what number Gavin is thinking RIGHT NOW. Not really), the other is expected to be an applicant who’s emailed the Mayor expressing “‘strong opinions’ on transit” with “solutions, not just critiques.” So how’s that going?
According to Mayoral spokesperson Tony Winnicker, it’s indeed going. He says that they’ve already gotten 21 applications and “receive a few more each day.” He says they’re planning on “conduct(ing) interviews in the (next) two weeks and the Mayor will make his appointments late April, if not before.”
So, all you Muni deep thinkers, that email address is gavin.newsom@sfgov.org. Here’s your chance to take those big ideas you have out of the comment section of your favorite local internet cybersite, and into City Hall.
