Why would it even be possible for the bus to take off with the door open?! I mean, even microwaves have a door sensor.

I can't speculate on the Muni door thing, but I know the microwave door thing can be jacked -- I worked at a Cinnabon where the microwave was DOORLESS (we used it to soften the epic amount of butter spread on the dough before we dumped the cinnamon/sugar blend on it).

I had always hoped that this had made me infertile, and had to discover the hard way that that was so not the case.

And with that, I turn a Muni story into an After School Special!

you know the door has a metal screen? 1.) that's a faraday cage, it keeps the bad mojo in the microwave. So it didn't make you sterile but 2.) you've increased your probability for cancer. 3.) I think you should sue and 4.) Profit!!!!

I take the 38L 2x a day everyday.
when it's really crowded some idiot always leans on one of the "push to open" bars on the back door. I've never been on a bus that was able to move with the doors open.

The old 7-Haight buses used to have a problem where the doors would keep opening when the bus tried to pull away from the curb. One or two people would then have to hold the doors closed until the bus got going.

The MTA daily reports (now uploaded once a week) don't show any door problems. I avoid the 38 but have seen many buses have defective doors (of all sorts) over the years.

The kids do all sorts of kid things around Roosevelt Middle School so anything is possible.

Crutches you say? A former coworker twisted his ankle getting off a MUNI bus at one point a few years ago. A few days later some bum on BART stole one of the crutches. Heh.

Anyhow. All of the buses and trains should have both door interlocks and mirrors for the drivers to see whether or not people are trying to board/disembark from the vehicle. Granted it is more difficult to check the mirrors on a crush loaded bus than on a train, but FFS why aren't the drivers making sure the doors are closed first? Ugh.

The last thing that comes to mind are the interlocks on the trains. The train drivers would routinely disable them (until someone had the bright idea to put a tamper evident piece of wax on the switch). I wonder if the bus drivers are doing the same thing...

A few years ago I saw 38 doors shut on someone's leg. The "victim" made a dramatic scene and the whole bus had to unload. I suspect they either did it on purpose or the doors slammed on just the right person looking to profit from such an accident.
