This week there’s been some talk about y’all (yes, you all) are just internet whiners who don’t do anything real to make your concerns heard. But I know that is not true!
That is why I am very hopeful that all of you who have blogged, commented, tweeted, or otherwise e-griped about Muni’s proposed cuts to service and increases in fares will take time out of your very busy (not being sarcastic! I know you are!) lives to hit one of Muni’s upcoming meetings to make sure your feelings on their plans are heard.
As friend of the Appeal, Colleen Taylor, told us:
The extent of my civil participation in SF in the nearly 4 years I’ve lived here hasn’t gone any farther than voting, but I feel like this is a case where I really have to step up.
I just think it’s important to do something now, because it genuinely feels like our transport system is on the verge of entering into a death spiral where we’ll all basically be forced to drive, like it is in LA or Detroit.
I like what Colleen is saying, here. I mean, it’s fun as hell to be all #munifail and all that, but if you think there are problems with the MTA’s plans for public transit in this city, sometimes you gotta get off the fucking internet and into the meatspace (Am I dating myself by using that word? Whatever).
Otherwise, I am not sure that you get to bitch anymore. Wait, that sounded harsher than I meant it. Of course you can bitch, bitch as much as you want. And I’m not promising that going to a MTA meeting will make all your dreams come true. But if you are going to be all “Muni sucks here’s what they should do to fix it!” it is time to take that remark off the comments section and to them, directly. Of course, there are many reasons you can’t make it out to either of those meetings, so you can also send your concerns to sfmtabudget@sfmta.com or call 311 and let loose on them.)
And it does not have to be boring! Taylor says she and her friends are “planning to go out for some afternoon drinking afterward, so we’re kind of making it into an event.” You can do that, too! But, please, if you’re a Muni griper, go to one of these upcoming meetings and say your piece.
