The whole TIC thing strikes me as a very poor deal, and basically a way to cheat around the condo conversion law.
They should either include TICs in the condo conversion law, or (ideally) repeal it altogether so the housing market supply isn't artificially restricted.

Who cares what Newsom thinks? He doesn't care about anyone but himself, and once again, lies to make his point. WhatEVER.

Gavin lying? Never!
I would love to own my own home. But unlike Gavin I don't have a pile of Getty money to play with. So I rent. I know that Gavin would rather not have to share the city with lower middle class people like myself. Shame for him that we're citizens. Citizens that make up a majority of voters in this fine city.

The thing is, the tenants are already gone in the TIC. So converting a TIC unit to condo does not remove 'a rental unit from the market.' Most TICs are owner occupied. So yeah, it would be a quick way for the city to make a buck. It would actually make sense.
And the shitty economy is better protection for the tenants, since no *new* TIC is created right now, with jumbo loans hard to get by, so no Ellis act of multi-unit buildings.
