In a release sent this afternoon, the SFPD report that they have arrested a man suspected of “exposing himself” to a 14-year-old woman at the Main Library last Friday, January 8.
According to reports, the woman was studying when the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Marty Jeffrey, sat down next to her and showed her the goods. She contacted library security, and library security contacted the SFPD officers assigned to the scene, who arrested Jeffrey on the spot.
Boston detectives, seeing Jeffrey’s name in “the system” (how TV cop show is that?) contacted the SFPD to let them know that Jeffrey was wanted for a similar incident in a transit station last September.
But that doesn’t mean that Jeffrey’s off to Boston just yet — The DA’s office has charged Jeffrey with committing a lewd act against a child, and ADA Brian Buckelew says that “we’re moving forward on the case against him.”
Once SF’s case against Jeffrey’s resolved, then, if Boston PD chooses, they can come pick Jeffrey up to face charges back East.

In addition, SFPD spokesperson Officer Boaz Mariles emphasizes that the SFPD has officers who are assigned specifically to the Main Library to protect its patrons. “If you’re at the library and experience an issue, make sure to tell security right away. That’s what they’re there for, to keep you safe in the library.” Good to know.
