eve, on the question of whether one can collect unemployment if one resigns...
you 'can', but it's more difficult than if you're laid off, where it's basically automatic. i believe the way it works is that they call the former-boss and depending on that conversation it's either approved or denied. if denied, former-employee can appeal that decision, which means you as former employee get to show up in this little micro court across the street from the ballpark. what happened with me i suspect is fairly common - former-boss is too busy to show up, and you as employee can argue your case without opposition.
