I got mine at Kaiser. I heard non-Kaiser pediatricians and obstetricians are scheduled to start getting supplies next week.

oh, they had shots at a bunch of local city clinics last week, but I heard they completely ran out. Which is good, because the clinic in the Mission is where I vote tomorrow!

The most important information is not to be found in this posting-- most people cannot get the H1N1 vaccine yet. People should get it when they can, but there is not enough for everybody right now.

From the Mayor's press release:

... those eligible for the vaccine... include both first and second tier high-risk individuals.

First Tier:
–Pregnant women
–All people from 6 months – 24 years of age
–People who live with or provide care for infants less than 6 months of age
–Health care and emergency responders with direct patient contact

Second Tier:
–Adults ages 25-64 with medical conditions that put them at risk for complications from influenza (heart, lung, kidney disease, asthma, diabetes, weakened immune system)

This flu has killed healthy young people who would survive a "normal" flu, and the vaccine is safe. People who are susceptible to conspiracy theories should stfu and stay home so they don't infect anybody with their disease or misplaced hostility towards authority and science.

I'm in the first tier (3rd line) and haven't been able to get it thus far. Hopefully this week.

I'm guessing the majority of sfappeal's readers won't fall into one of the groups that can get it yet.

As a pregnant preschool teacher, I figured I should get vaccinated. So I went on Saturday morning to the supposedly high-risk-only clinic at the Mission location. The line stretched across the parking lot, back around the corner, and back down the block with lots and lots of families and a huge number of what looked like just random people. I asked the lady who appeared to be in charge what was up; she said that they were giving the vaccine to anyone (not just people who were high-risk), despite what the announcement had said, and that there was just the one line.

So, I looked at all the clinic locations that day, picked the one that was likely to have the fewest children (the Castro clinic, I guessed), and went there where there was no line at all for people without children. It was awesome and took like five minutes. (That being said, they were also vaccinating anyone who showed up there - my husband was also able to get the shot just by virtue of standing by me. Win!)
