the trick is that in some places, you'll have little bits of red paint on either side of the drive way entrance. thus, blocking your own driveway is cool, BUT if your tires roll into those little red painted parts on the sides, you'll get a ticket.
I love seeing the SMART cars get those previously unusable spots in the sunset...

The red paint is most often painted by the property owner to avoid their driveway being crowded. Rarely it is SFDPT painted. I believe that to get a ticket in a driveway, you need someone to call them.
On a related topic, if you park even an inch into someone else's driveway, even though you might think you're not impeding on a car coming and going, they can not only get you cited, they can get you towed.
