Michael Vick has declined an invitation to see eight of his former dogs when he is in town this weekend, a Bay Area advocacy group reports.
The advocacy group Bay Area Doglovers Responsible About Pitbulls told the Associated Press that they sent Vick an invitation through the Eagles to see his dogs, which were part of the dog fighting operation at Bad Newz Kennels in Virginia. Vick however, declined.
BAD RAP co-founder Tim Racer said they picked a location where Vick would be able to view his dogs from behind a window. But the Eagles informed them that Vick would be declining the offer.
Racer said the following in regards to Vick’s decline: “We understand Vick is trying to right his wrongs and is very interested in redemption, but you can’t find redemption without acknowledging your victims,” Making amends to the dogs themselves would have helped to create some closure for many of us, especially those people who worked so hard to keep them from being destroyed. It seems that Vick is not ready to go there.”
BAD RAP, which is located in Oakland, took in 10 of Vick’s dogs (see a video of the dogs, today, here) after Vick was charged with involvement in a dogfighting ring in 2007. He pleaded guilty to a federal charge of bankrolling a dogfighting operation in one of his homes and served an 23-month prison sentence.
Vick will be playing his first road game with the Philadelphia Eagles in Oakland, against the Raiders.
