Friend of the Appeal raqcoon sent us this video*, saying he caught it on Saturday around 6 at 7th Avenue and Cabrillo.
He says “I didn’t see it happen (I was on scene after the fact, and didn’t speak with anybody)…I don’t know what happened to the driver or passengers, if any (it’s at the end of the line).”
Apparently, raqcoon knows as much at the MTA does — an email to spokesperson Judson True got us confirmation (“An outbound 21 struck a fire hydrant at the location below at 5:05 p.m.”), but True had no additional details, such as:
— Were there passengers on the bus?
— Who was the operator?
— How did the accident happen?
— Was the bus damaged, or is it still in circulation?
Though we asked True those questions at 12:50 yesterday afternoon, he hasn’t been able to get us a response by publication time. Our good friends at Streetsblog might argue that he was too busy putting spin on why the Muni budget discussion was removed from today’s MTA board meeting agenda, but we suppose the Van Ness Station Flood Of Aught Nine might have impaired his usual promptness.
We’re hopeful he’ll respond shortly, because we sure are curious about what went down, aren’t you? Until then, speculate away, that’s what comments are for.
*and he’s the one who first made the “cuts corners” joke, we must give credit where it’s due!
