Start preparing now: San Francisco residents are expected to step up their “green team” game as of October 21 of this year.
You already know that San Francisco’s new legislation will require households and businesses located in San Francisco to separate their recyclables, compostables, and land fill trash, and participate in recycling and composting programs.
The new law goes something like this: “All persons in San Francisco shall source separate their refuse into recyclables, compostables and trash, and place each type of refuse in a separate container designated for disposal of that type of refuse. No person may mix recyclables, compostables or trash, or deposit refuse in a collection container designated for another type of refuse, except as otherwise provided….”
To make this recycling easier for SF residents, The City is providing free green kitchen pails for compost scraps. The pails are small containers that can sit wherever is convenient. Sunset Scavenger, Golden Gate Disposal, and Recycling will all deliver these pails at no additional cost.
Our friends at the Richmond District note that you can also request to have a free pail delivered to you here, just click on the “get a free green or blue cart” link. “When the form pops up,” they tell us “look for the ‘I’m inquiring about’ section and select ‘Free kitchen pail’.”
