On Monday, we did a piece on the confrontation some cyclists had with a man suspected of attempted (wow equivocate much?) bicycle theft. There were some comments in it that made a follow-up appropriate, so that’s what we’re doing.

Sean asked “So what do you do if you see this guy? Call the cops? It’s like he wouldn’t be difficult to recognize.”

We asked Marc Caswell, one of the guys who encountered the suspect in our original story. He says “I’d recommend calling SFPD. The SFBC and I, personally, wouldn’t recommend any vigilantism- a bike thief isn’t worth an assault & battery charge or Unlawful Detainment. You don’t have the right to physically restrain someone, especially when they aren’t in the act of committing the crime.” Or, we’ll hasten to add, getting assaulted/battered. So, yes, if you see this guy, call the police, don’t try to make a citizens arrest or whatever.

And, last night, commenter auweia noted that he thinks a man fitting the suspect’s description was spotted in the 6th and Minna area.

Check out the slideset above. What do you think, do we have a match?
